Ali Landry, David Charvet, THE SUPERSTARS celebrity contestants: Mr. Media Radio Interview

My best friend Bruce Kessler and I would be glued to ABC’s “Wide World of Sports” during the 1970s when it aired its ‘Superstars” competitions, pitting athletes and celebrities against one another in sports which no one had a natural advantage or, usually, much experience.

Now ABC has once more brought back that old chestnut in a new primetime seasons of “The Superstars,” airs on Tuesday through July at 8 p.m. on ABC. This time around, we get male/female, celebrity/athlete teams including Terrell Owens and Joanna Krupa, Robert Horry and Estella Warren, Lisa Leslie and Dan Cortese, Brandi Chastain and Julio Iglesias Jr. and others.

Joining me today are two superstars who are not teamed together, Baywatch and Melrose Place star David Charvet and actress and former Miss USA Ali Landry.

Craig Olejnik, THE LISTENER NBC CTV drama star: Mr. Media Radio Interview

Craig Olejnik- (O-LEDGE-nik) stars in a new NBC and CTV drama series, “The Listener,” that you may have already seen on Fox if you live outside North America.

“The Listener,” stars Olejnik and Ennis Esmer as paramedic partners. If that sounds a little like the NBC hit from the 1970s, “Emergency!” wait for the catch: Olejnik’s character, Toby Logan, is a telepath.

Joining me today to discuss “The Listener,” which airs Thursdays on NBC at 9 pm, is Craig Olejnik.

Mary McCormack, IN PLAIN SIGHT USA Network drama star: Mr. Media Radio Interview

On June 13, 2008, my wife twisted my arm into seeing a Broadway play while we would be in New York celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary.

The big attraction of that trip was going to be seeing comedian Ricky Gervais live at Madison Square Garden the next night. Because Gervais was chosen for my wife, I got to pick the play.

Scouring the listings and reviews, I landed on Boeing-Boeing, a traditional bedroom farce revival from the 1960s starring Bradley Whitford, Gina Gershon, Christine Baranski and an actress named Mary McCormack who I only knew from one high-profile role—she played Howard Stern’s wife, Allison, in the movie version of Private Parts.

The New York Times described McCormack’s “glorious Olympian strut and wide-legged, take-no-prisoners stance.” And she was truly incredible, demonstrating tremendous comedic timing in a cast of top-notch players.

When we returned from New York, we discovered McCormack’s other role—star of the USA Network’s new drama, “In Plain Sight,” which is now in its second season. It airs Sunday nights at 10 p.m.

Mr. Media gets a ticket on the Hot Tamale Train with ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ judge Mary Murphy!

Everybody has their own reason for watching a show like “So You Think You Can Dance," airing Wednesday and Thursday nights this summer on Fox.

Some tune in for the hot dancers; some just dig the host, Cat Deeley. Others lie in wait for the snarky remarks by judge Nigel Lythgoe. But everyone wants to know what will come out of judge Mary Murphy’s colorful mouth next.

Saul Rubinek, WAREHOUSE 13 SyFy series star: Mr. Media Radio Interview

The name of their new ABC Family show is “10 Things I Hate About You,” so I think it only fair that I get to quiz these two young stars, Lindsey Shaw and Ethan Peck, about the 10 things they hate about someone—anyone!

They can tackle these 10 anyway they want: five each or nine for Ethan and one for Lindsey.

And if this doesn’t work, I’ll ask each of them to recite a bit of their character’s dialogue, completely out of context, of course.

‘Weeds’ star Justin Kirk (Andy Botwin) takes Mr. Media to school in ‘University of Andy’ webisodes

The cast of Weeds circa Season 2, Left to Righ...

Last night, my wife and I engaged in one of those perception vs. reality recaps. In it, I recalled my perception of the Showtime sitcom “Weeds” was that there couldn’t possibly a show in which I could have even less interest.

I’ve never been a drug guy. No smoky, no snortie, no pills, hell, I don’t even drink. Never been an interest of mine. So why the hell would I watch a show about a widow who becomes a pot dealer to support her two boys—and it’s played for laughs?

Okay, I was wrong. Last fall, I was laid up for several weeks and going out of my mind with boredom. I became well acquainted with the “On Demand” function of our cable service and caught up with a lot of TV shows I had previously missed. And when those ran out, I watched a random episode of “Weeds.”

I laughed so hard it hurt.

Could I have been so wrong? Yes.

I watched every episode I could find. Several of them, I watched over and over. This summer, I hooked my wife and we rented the series from Netflix, starting with season one. She’s almost caught up and we hope to start on season 5, which began airing new episodes this month, shortly.

If you’ve never seen the show on grounds similar to my original view, I urge you to reconsider. The cast includes Mary Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, the insane Kevin Nealon and the show’s gooey center, my guest today, Justin Kirk, who plays Andy Botwin.

If you’re easily offended, don't click the "play" button below. This show is intended for adults.
